I’ve tried a few of the iPhone navigation apps. And the best one I’ve found is Navigon. It uses a great combination of server-based and device based data to make the user experience during navigation outstanding. (Its a big app though cuz it’s got all the maps on the device.)
The interface that you use to tell Navigon where you want to go needs to be improved, but you spend most of your time in the app in navigation mode, and that’s where Navigon shines. There are some neat extra’s too implimented as in-app purchases: 3D maps, and Red Light Camera warnings.
It uploads (if you allow it) your location and speed. It uses all the data from you and everybody else that uploads to determine traffic congestions.
You can get different editions – North America, East coast-only, West coast-only, Europe.

Hello all, Can’t agree with Brian more that this app for the iPhone / iPad works well. I have used it extensively when I go to a new parts of the country to help me get around. What I like the most is that it talks to me — gives me enough time to prepare for my next move, and knows when you are in the incorrect lane to make your next move.
This is one app that I use regularly. When I have my iPhone, I know I have a trusted guidance system.
