Fantastical – Better Calendar UI

I’ve used a bunch of Calendar apps but mostly I use the Calendar App that comes with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. I used to try and sync with Google to share calendars and stuff, but that sync was never rock solid. BusyCal was pretty good for a while, but when Apple added sharing for MobileMe users, I switched back to that.

One thing I don’t like is adding appointments. Its not bad, it just requires more clicks than you’d think it should. Its not a very “Apple-like” experience.

So the guys at Flexibits came out with a lightweight little Mac app called FantastiCAL that adds a lot of polish to Calendar. And it works with OS X Calendar, Entourage or Outlook.

It has a natural language interface, so you can just type “Lunch with Steve at Applebee’s on Friday at noon.” It figures out which bit of info is the date, time, location and description. It lives in the menubar and shows your upcoming events as an agenda.

iPhone and iPad app pricing has really lowered the expected price of apps, so this one coming in at $14.99 seems high, but for a desktop app, that isn’t really too bad.
